Zach Rice, the number 2 recruit of all time in UNC football history, bagged another national honor.
The USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country, included Rice on Monday with his 24-man 2021-22 All-USA TODAY HSSA Offensive Football Team.
Rice, a five-star attack in 2022 from Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, Va., Became UNC’s number 2 recruit of all time in the Internet era when he verbally committed himself to the Tar Heels last October.
Rice and five-star defensive linebacker Travis Shaw were the anchors of a UNC’s 17-man 2022 recruiting class, which was second in the ACC and 11th nationally on 247Sports composite rankings. Rice, listed at 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, enrolled at UNC in early January and was a spring-practice standout.
Rice was the No. 1 recruit in Virginia, No. 1 attack and No. 13 overall recruiter in the 2022 class. At Liberty Christian Academy, he was a four-year starting and two-time selection from all states on the left. tackle who as junior and senior allowed zero pockets. Rice also scored 219 pancake blocks last season.
Also listed among the 24 award winners is Kanye Roberts, a former Wallace-Rose Hill High fullback and current App State early entrant. Roberts, a two-star recruit, as a senior led the country in rushing (3,511) and total touchdowns (64) and helped the Bulldogs reach the NCHSAA 2A State Championships.
Per USA TODAY: “These 24 standouts will be honored as nominees for National Offensive Footballer of the Year. The winner, along with three finalists, will be unveiled on July 31 during an on-demand broadcast, which this year will feature top athletes in 29 boys ‘and girls’ sports award categories, as well as special honors such as Special Olympics Athlete of the Year, Rising Star and Play of the Year. ”
