Unexpectedly, a hungry bear snatches 60 cupcakes from the bakery

A bear broke into an Oatmeal bakery on Wednesday morning, helping out with 60 cupcakes and making a “fake accusation” at an employee.

He happened upon Taste By Spellbound on West Main Street in Avon.

The bakery’s kitchen supervisor said he was baking in a vehicle in the parking garage at the back of the bakery Wednesday morning when he noticed the bear.

They used the car seats in the car to transport their groceries and tried to close the door, but the bear made what wildlife officials call a “false charge.”

That’s when a bear puffs up to look bigger and jumps on its front legs toward a person, then stops dead in its tracks or to the side, according to the National Park Service.

For they were said to frighten or terrify a violent crime.

The kitchen supervisor ran for cover and the bear got up on the candy and ate 60 cupcakes.

Those cupcakes were supposed to go to the Taste By Spellbound location in South Windsor and had to delay opening due to the four-cupcake theft.

While the bear made a mess, it caused no permanent damage.

Police said three officers at the bakery around 8:20 a.m. Then the bear went and no one was injured.

They notified the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

While it is common for Avon Police to respond to calls about bears in April and May, this was new to them.

Avon Police said the number of calls they received about bears has doubled since last year, but has not reached the level reached in 2021.

Police warn that bears are in the community and encourage people to be aware of their surroundings.
