The president of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy said this Tuesday that ordered a commission to begin a formal investigation for the impeachment of the president Joe Biden for his family’s business.
McCarthy said the House investigation found a “culture of corruption” around the Biden family.
The leader republican is facing increasing pressure from his right wing to take action against Biden.
McCarthy plans to meet with lawmakers behind closed doors several times throughout the week to discuss the political trial to Biden, and other issues. The legislative leader is having trouble getting the bills needed to avoid a government shutdown at the end of the month.
The Republican leader finds himself at a crossroads again: he must try to satisfy his own right wing and prevent his own removal from office. It’s a situation McCarthy knows all too well, caught between impeachment and the threat of a government shutdown with no clear end game.
The White House says the impeachment campaign is politically motivated.
“President McCarthy should not send far-right lawmakers threatening to shut down the government if they don’t get a baseless, evidence-free impeachment of President Biden. The consequences for the American people are dire, “said spokesman Ian Sams..
The former president, the Republican Donald Trump, was subjected to two impeachment trials by the House of Representatives, but he was acquitted by the Senate. He is now facing trials in more serious cases in four courts for trying to overturn the 2020 election won by Biden, among other accusations.
