United States: Pennsylvania, key state in midterm elections

first Amendment:

Shortly before the midterm elections in the United States, the eyes of the whole country turn again to Pennsylvania, which put President Joe Biden on top in 2020. One of the important issues of the campaign is abortion.

There are less than two weeks left before the midterm elections in the United States. At stake are 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 36 governorships, 34 mayors and 35 seats in the Senate. In a Senate race currently controlled by Democrats, the contest in Pennsylvania could define the country’s political future.

In Pennsylvania, John Futterman, a Democrat and lieutenant governor, faces Republican Mehmet Oz, the famous television doctor. In one of the most watched debates of the campaign so far, the candidates were asked about the issue of abortion.

“whyI believe that abortion is a universal right for all women in America. Abortion is public health and I think it’s a decision that women should make with their doctors,” she replied. John Futterman.

narrow margin

For his part, Mehmet Oz said that “The federal government should have no involvement in how states make decisions on abortion. I want women, doctors and local political leaders to let democracy, which has always allowed our country to prosper, come up with the best ideas so that States can decide for themselves.

In the average number of polls conducted by Real Clear Politics, John Futterman leads Dr. Oz by two points. But the margin is narrow and Pennsylvania’s Acting Secretary of State Leigh M. Chapman anticipated controversy and warned that the November 8 election results would take longer than in other states due to internal election law.
