If you are a beneficiary of the scheme supplemental Security Income (SSI), you must know that in the month of June you will receive double the payment and here we explain why.
The federal program provides monthly payments to adults and children with disabilities or blindness whose income and resources fall below specific financial limits. Similarly, it also pays for disabled people aged 65 years or more who have low economic income (salaries, pensions, resources).

Why would there be double SSI payment in the month of June?
According to the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) 2023 calendar, payments to beneficiaries are made on the first of each month. Payment will be made for the month on 1st June, which is a Thursday and since 1st July falls on a Saturday, the contribution will be made before 30th June.
As per the calendar of 12 annual payments, when the first day falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is made before the beginning of the month.
What are the amounts received by each type of beneficiary?
Below are these federal payment amounts, effective January 2023, according to the SSA page.
- Single person: US$914
- Doubles: $1,371
- Essentials: US$458.
Use: You may receive a higher amount if you live in a state that contributes money to SSI. You may also receive less if you or your family has other income. Where and with whom you live also makes a difference to the amount of your SSI payment.

What are the requirements to access SSI?
To receive SSI, you must meet one of the following requirements, in addition to having a low income:
- Be 65 years or older.
- Total or partial blindness.
- Have a medical condition that prevents you from working and is expected to last for at least one year or is expected to cause death.
- Minor under 18 years of age with physical or mental disability or blindness.
