US concerned over China’s crimes against Uighurs

UN report documents torture
US concerned over China’s crimes against Uighurs

Washington wants to “hold China accountable”. US Secretary of State Blinken reacted sharply to the latest UN report on China’s treatment of the Uighur minority. He called for an end to abuse and free access in the Xinjiang region.

The US has described the contents of the UN’s explosive report on human rights abuses against minorities in China as worrying. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “The United States welcomes this important report, which officially describes the appalling treatment and abuse of Uighurs and members of other ethnic and religious minorities by the government of the People’s Republic of China. Is.”

The report reiterated “our serious concerns” about ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity by government officials in China against Uighurs, who are predominantly Muslim, and members of other ethnic and religious minority groups in Xinjiang.

Blinken seeks independent investigation

Blinken said Washington would continue to “hold Beijing accountable” for what happened in Xinjiang. Washington called on Beijing to “release those wrongfully detained, held accountable for the disappearances, and allow independent investigators full and unhindered access to Xinjiang, Tibet, and the entire People’s Republic of China.”

Earlier, the United Nations Human Rights Office in Geneva gave detailed indications of crimes against humanity in a long-awaited report on the situation in China’s Xinjiang region. UN High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet published the report just before midnight – just ten minutes before the end of her term on Wednesday evening. Human rights organizations see this as confirmation that China is violating human rights when dealing with minorities in the country’s northwestern region. Among other things, there is talk of “credible” allegations of torture. The report does not allege genocide which the USA has been facing since 2021. The government in Beijing reacted to the publication with outrage.
