The island of San Juan del Sur, a destination city by excellence in the Central Nation, has become the new home for dozens of students who receive education without the worry of fear of someone walking into the school holding a gun.
Due to the increase in gambling in the United States (USA) and gun violence in general, the number families who immigrated to Nicaragua seeking a milder environment for the education and upbringing of their children.

Jamie Lynn Hunter, a teacher and mother, founded a private bilingual school with local and foreign students, and told Telemundo, “This school is where I feel my daughter can have freedom; they direct her to school, or violence.”
Hunter came to the island in 2010 from Chicago, Illinois, and works with a dual method of delivering English and Spanish. “I think the children here are happiest studying in a natural environment, in connection with the environment, in a safe place.”

to grow without fear
Elizabeth, a Nicaraguan mother, said that it was “a beautiful experience, to be able to share my son with different parts of the culture”: while another mother stated: “I would like to see my daughter grow up here in Nicaragua, who is not afraid to go into class, someone with a gun” .
Leslie Stewart arrived in this coastal town of 8,000 inhabitants in 2012 doing voluntary work, got married, and decided to settle in San Juan del Sur, where she founded the Real Estate Invest Nicaragua company.
“I feel very safe with my daughters here, we don’t have many concerns that my colleagues in the US have,” she said.
school violence
This week, a new shooting occurred on the campus of an American school, at East High School in Denver, Colorado, when 17-year-old Austin Lyle opened fire on two employees during a routine search before entering classes. The young man was later found dead and authorities reported his death.

On March 3rd, high school students left their classrooms and went to Colorado State to protest the death of 16-year-old Luis Garcia, who was shot outside of school.
Gun violence in schools in the US has become increasingly common with more than 1,300 shootings recorded between 2000 and June 2022, according to government researchers. Those shootings killed 377 people and injured 1,025, according to official figures from the Associated Press.
