In an interview with Noticias Caracol, United States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland expressed The willingness of his country to support the peace plan of the Gustavo Petro administration and the implementation of agreements with the FARC. Furthermore, they said that they would closely follow the process that started with the ELN in Venezuela.
“We all want peace. We have long been Colombia’s allies in the pursuit of peace and in the implementation of the 2016 agreements. We had a very good conversation with the President and I also had the opportunity to speak with the Vice President and the Foreign Minister. Agenda Who is moving forward and his peace plan. We understand that there are talks that will be underway or a part of which is underway soon and we would like to be a support in whatever way we can.Victoria Nuland said.
Furthermore, the official indicated that “We’re interested in a comprehensive approach to peace here and that’s very much in line with what the President is talking about.”
On the implementation of the peace deal, Nuland stressed that “the president has been very clear about what he wants to do and what he wants to start,” and that’s why “We have to see how it works out, but obviously we’re interested in following it very closely and see what happens and also see if the other side is interested in taking that arm.” which the President is increasing., So we are going to follow it step by step, but my belief is that what the government wants to do is the right thing and we will follow it how we can help.
Communicate with ELN
It hasn’t started yet, so we don’t know how ELN will react, We don’t know what will be the nature, the purpose, from the side of the government and from the ELN side and whether they will be able to find a common path, So we will be watching with interest at this stage and I have asked the Government to keep us informed and we will see how it progresses.
Relations with Venezuela
we don’t recognize the government Maduro, but it is the sovereign right of each government to decide with whom to build relations, so it is clear that the decision of the new administration has been to normalize with Venezuela. We had a very good conversation about two points of reconciliation of the Petro Administration: First, the absolute importance of all Border Security and that the border stop being a stage for some of the bad things that are happening; and we also talked about the effort that we’re involved in, which is Maduro seeks to bring unified platform of government and opposition to talks in Mexico City and to create conditions for free and fair elections in Venezuela to be held in 2024.
Both Colombia and the United States have a vested interest in making sure that these elections go along a better path than in the past and that the opposition can compete on an equal playing field, so I believe Petro U.K. After that we can work together. There is a possibility of talking with the Maduro regime at a time when it is difficult for us, so there may be some synergy there.
aerial spraying of glyphosate
We have been involved in aerial spraying for many years, so this is not a particular problem. I think the most important thing is that this process should go ahead because people have livelihood options. I think we’re ready to partner on that and partner in every way, but we also look forward to seeing how the President implements his new vision.
