USA beat England in 0-0 draw

ZOR, Qatar ( Associated Press) – Hooting broke out at the stadium. England fans were not happy. America had once again made it difficult for him to survive in the World Cup.

With a display of intensity and stellar play from their star Christian Pulisic, the Americans played out a 0-0 draw against the United States on Friday, a result that left the battle in Group B wide open.

This was the third meeting between the two in the World Cup and the British were still unable to defeat the Americans.

England coach Gareth Southgate reminded his players of that history, including a memorable 1-0 win over the USA in 1950 and a 1-1 draw in 2010. of the United States youth team, led by Greg Berhalter.

England beat Iran 6–2 on their debut in Qatar and confirmed their status as title contenders. But they would again lose to the United States when Pulisic clipped the crossbar in the first half and Weston McKinney scored from nearly twenty feet.

Berhalter said, “I would have liked to see the goals.” “We feel proud, but we still have work ahead of us.”

The key will be to define on Tuesday which four teams will be standing.

England are ahead on four points and Iran are in second place on three points after beating Wales 2-0 in the first game of the day.

The United States moved up to third place with two points and qualifying will be played against Iran next Tuesday. England will square off against Wales, with one unit still in contention.

The Englishman had his best chance at the start of the duel with a shot from Harry Kane after a brilliant combination with Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham. But American defender Walker Zimmermann appeared with enough to deflect the corner kick.

The United States did not take long to move, pressing the advanced lines high and leveling the process.

Kane missed the game-winner in injury time, with a header going wide.

“It’s not bad to draw, but we created chances and we dominated many stages”, Pulisic was awarded man of the match. “We weren’t the favourites, but we played equally well against a great team.”

“We are no closer to what we wanted to achieve…there is still a lot to do,” he said.

England took a step back with a thicker version of the team that beat Iran 6–2 in the first match.

Coach Gareth Southgate repeated the starting eleven, with an attacking trio composed of Kane, Saka and Raheem Sterling, as well as Bellingham, Mason Mount and Declan Rice in the formation.

Saka did not show the same freshness of the first commitment in which he signed a double. Bellingham was unable to provide the same form of form on his World Cup debut, which saw the 19-year-old midfielder score a goal.

“We had some good passes with the ball, we created chances, but we weren’t good at finishing,” said the striker. “But 0-0 puts us in a great position in the group.”

“It’s the exact opposite of what happened with Iran,” he said. “We know we can play better than this. No match in the World Cup is easy. After the first game, people thought we would destroy everyone, but that was not going to happen.
