Reichelt ended the relationship, but later resumed it. According to court documents, the plaintiff says he feared negative consequences if he refused to have sex with Reichelt. Furthermore, Reichelt said that he should not talk to anyone about the incidents. He took it as a threat.

In 2019, the woman was sent to San Francisco for the Springer Group to work for “Build”. There she was harassed by colleagues because of an affair, and a complaint to the boss there was unsuccessful. Her contract was not renewed shortly thereafter.

First hearing in December

Among other things, the woman reports that the affair and bullying of colleagues led to anxiety and depression. The woman, who currently lives in Los Angeles, has requested a jury hearing there. The first court hearing is scheduled for December.

The charges against Reichelt became known in March 2021. At the time, many women accused him of intimidating and exploiting dependency relationships. Reichelt has always denied the allegations and spoke of a smear campaign against himself.

After an internal investigation, Springer-Verlag initially captured Reichelt. In October 2021, the “New York Times” newspaper reported on the allegations, and an investigative team from the “Ippen” media group was also conducting research. Soon after, Reichelt was released.

Higher claims for damages are possible if the lawsuit is successful

German axle-springer is a Delaware-based subsidiary of Verlag and has expanded into the United States. Last year, the publisher acquired the American media company “Politico”. Springer acquired online service Business Insider in 2015.

If the woman’s lawsuit against the publisher in the United States is successful, the legal situation there could result in a large number of damages claims.
