USA: Predicted to Finish 4th Most Medals in Beijing

With 100 days leading up to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, Norway is in first place in the medal table, with the United States in fourth.

According to the forecast published by Gracenote, Nielsen, on Wednesday, the “neutral” team of Russian athletes will finish second, and Germany – third. Predictions are based on competition results over the past four years.

Gracenote expects Americans to earn a total of seven golds and 24 medals. This will be a slight improvement in their total over the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, where they finished behind Canada.

Skater Nathan Chen and skier Mikaela Shiffrin are expected to lead the US team heading to China.

Norway has won a record 44 medals, 30 of which are in cross-country skiing and biathlon.

Preparations for the Beijing Olympics are moving forward despite ongoing concerns about COVID-19 and widespread calls for a boycott of athletes due to human rights violations in China.

On Tuesday, organizers unveiled their medal designs borrowed from ancient Chinese jade pendants. According to the organizers, the five concentric rings symbolize “the unity of heaven and earth and the unity of the hearts of people.”

Competitions will be held from 4 to 20 February.
