USA: Trump search grounds partially made public

IThe legal controversy surrounding the discovery of the assets of former US President Donald Trump, the public should at least have some insight into the basis on which the action was ordered. A Florida judge on Thursday ordered the partial release of a document authorizing a search warrant for Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Palm Beach home. The Ministry of Justice should therefore publish a partially darkened version of the document by Friday afternoon (local time) at the latest.

The ministry on Thursday submitted a motion to the judge on the extent to which the document protecting sensitive information should be blacked out. Judge Bruce Reinhart reacted unexpectedly quickly and in his order considered the ministry’s proposal to be sufficient to protect the identity of witnesses or the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

importance is not clear

Several media had requested the publication of the document. On the other hand, the Justice Department initially argued that it could affect future investigations and the cooperation of witnesses. However, at the order of the judge, the department eventually put together its proposal to black out. How comprehensive these will be – and how meaningful the document will be – is unclear.

The FBI searched Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida in early August. The background was Trump’s handling of documents from his term. Among other things, the FBI seized several sets of documents classified as top secret. It is very unusual for investigators to search the home of a former president. Trump criticized the officials’ actions against him for being politically motivated and defended himself with a lawsuit.
