Surabaya Mayor Ari Kahyadi threatened to shut down the Platopia children’s playground if proven racist. It is the result of an incident with the grandson of Social Minister Tri Rismaharini, who had allegedly received discrimination and was expelled from Platopia for taking off his mask while playing.
If it is proved that what really happened at the time was discrimination, Arie made it clear that she would not remain silent. He demanded the closure of the playground.
When asked by reporters in Balai Pemuda on Saturday (3/9/2022), he said, “If it is true that there is discrimination, then stop it. There is no discrimination in Surabaya.”
Erie also asked other playgrounds in Surabaya not to discriminate, especially those with children.
Erie said, “I’m like, if it’s related to discrimination, we’ll see what happens first. But there should never be discrimination in Surabaya. It can’t happen.”
In addition, Arie continued, previously stating that the rule was to wear a mask while playing the game. When the 2-year-old grandson of Social Minister Risma took off the mask, the playground staff asked him to get out of the playground.
“We were asked to come out and it was over, Mas Fuad wanted to come out. But when he came out, how come people who were not wearing masks inside. Well, this needs to be questioned. ,” he explained.
Ari stressed that he was pretty sure that Platopia’s staff had no intention of discriminating against the former Surabaya mayor’s grandson before him.
“I’m sure there’s no discrimination. Maybe it was a miscommunication or something, that’s what I asked to look for,” he said.
For them Surabaya is already famous for its ‘vocal’ culture which is far from discrimination. But according to him the incident was over and the playground had apologised.
Arie concluded, “If there’s a mistake, I’m sorry, if there’s a mistake or misunderstanding, say yes. That’s it.”
