Varshaw and Smith helped Diamondbacks beat Tigers

Phoenix, Ariz. ( Associated Press) – Dalton Varshaw hit a three-run homer, Pavin Smith had a career-best four hits and three RBIs and the Arizona Diamondbacks avoided a series sweep with an 11-7 win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday.

David Peralta also had three hits for Arizona, ending a five-game losing streak.

Varshaw’s home run was his 10th run of the season and came in the sixth inning as Arizona scored five. The Diamondbacks got a total of 13 hits on Sunday.

American League Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel made his debut with Arizona on June 6 after signing a minor league contract. He conceded six hits and four earned runs, scored seven runs and conceded three runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Reliever JB Wendelken (2-1) scored the win for Arizona despite giving away two earned runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Detroit starter Beau Briske allowed five hits and five earned runs in 3 2/3 innings. Will West (1-2) conceded four hits and five runs in an innings.

For Tigres, Puerto Rican Willy Castro 4-1 with two RBIs and Javier Baez 4-0; Venezuela’s Miguel Cabrera 4-1 and Harold Castro 3-0.

For the Diamondbacks, David Peralta of Venezuela 4-3 with a run; And Dominican Kettell Marte scored 3-1 with a run and Geraldo Perdomo scored 3-0 with a run.
