LAS VEGAS ( Associated Press) – Las Vegas police have shot and seriously injured a man who opened fire while talking to a woman seeking police help near a vacant lot near Harry Reid International Airport, officials said on Thursday.
It was the third shooting to involve the Las Vegas police in less than a week.
Captain Carlos Hank said in a video statement The latest incident also occurred at around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday night near the Town Center shopping center on a section of Las Vegas Boulevard. He did not specify an exact location.
When they spoke to the woman, a man got down from a nearby vehicle and opened fire, officials said.
“The officers opened fire and the suspect fled on foot into the local desert area,” Hank said, where officers chased him and arrested him. The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Hank said no one else was injured in the shootout and that the man and woman knew each other.
Police and the Clark County District Attorney are investigating two other police shootings that killed the alleged attackers since last week.
Police said that on January 6, Officer Jason Guerra was responding to a report of a theft when he shot and killed 30-year-old Ricardo Antonio Otero, when Otero ignored seven orders to drop a hunting knife. and rolled towards Guerra, police said.
On Monday, a 19-year-old man was killed and two police SWAT officers were injured in a shootout while serving a pre-dawn search warrant in a murder investigation.
The slain suspect has been identified as Isaiah Tyree Williams. Two police officers were taken to hospital for treatment for injuries, which officials said were not life-threatening.
Las Vegas police reported 10 police shootings throughout 2021, with six fatalities.
