New Delhi: Naseeruddin Shah is one of the best actors in India. He expressed his views openly in front of the people. While promoting his directorial venture ‘Man Woman Man Woman’, he said that it bothers him that films like ‘The Kashmir Files’ are so popular these days.
Naseeruddin Shah said this while talking to Free Press Journal. When he was asked if the purpose of filmmaking in Bollywood has changed, he said, ‘Yes, the more chauvinist you are, the more popular you become, because they are running the country.’
Naseeruddin Shah further said, ‘Loving your country is not enough. You have to make noise and also create an imaginary enemy. These people do not see that what they are doing is very harmful. In fact, films like ‘The Kerala Story’ and ‘Gadar 2’, which I haven’t seen yet, but I know what it’s about. It is very painful that films like ‘The Kashmir Files’ are so popular, while films made by Sudhir Mishra, Anubhav Sinha and Hansal Mehta, which try to show the truth, are not seen by anyone. The important thing is that these filmmakers do not get frustrated and continue to tell true stories.
Naseeruddin Shah continued, ‘After a hundred years, people will watch ‘Bheed’ and ‘Gadar 2′ and know which film speaks the truth of our times, because the films is the only medium that can do that. .’
The film ‘Man Woman Man Woman’ is Naseeruddin Shah’s second film as a director. Earlier he did the Irrfan Khan starrer film ‘Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota’. When Naseeruddin was asked why he returned to direction after 17 years, he said, ‘I am trying to recover from the shock of making a bad film. It didn’t turn out the way I thought it would. I was not technically competent at the time. At that time I just thought that if I cast the best actors, the job will be done.
