Vicente Marques (Unite): “At ESIC I was looking for a program where I could learn from the best”

Valencia (VP). you are currently united as Managing Director. but, We all have a work past, what’s yours?

Since I was 16 I combined my studies with summer jobs as a labourer, waiter, store boy and even a DJ, but as soon as I finished my industrial engineering at UPV , I got my first relevant professional experience.

Those were good times and a few weeks after graduation I had my first interview and started working as a product technician at Reca Hispania SA, an industrial supply company.

Which companies are marking your way?

Obviously all the companies you pass by mark you down. They are all part of your personal and professional development. But I will honestly highlight the first two companies I worked for and worked there for about 7 years in Germany. The first is Sovelo, at that time (2012) a manufacturer of high quality photovoltaic panels sold worldwide, based in a town near Leipzig, where I was in charge of developing the business for diverse markets such as Poland, Chile, Jordan, Pakistan was. ,

Here I was able to learn how to manage different cultural traits to be successful in business relationships and I was able to consolidate my German language level to a level that made me feel confident.

The second experience that I will highlight from my German adventure is the company KETEK, a pioneer in the field of silicon detectors with applications in aeronautics, optics and even the space industry. Also in the sales department with the position of Account Manager, my mission was to serve and grow existing customers, as well as find new business opportunities. In fact, I managed to open up a market in Canada for the company. I had the opportunity to frequently travel to the US, a market where a large proportion of our clients are based and a time I remember fondly, as it developed me a lot professionally, meeting people from all over the world. and mixed with cultures. world and allowed me to acquire the skills to learn business techniques to sell complex technical products. While in KTech, I got a chance to join Unite.

I fell in love with the company as soon as they told me about the project, and since 2015 I have been enjoying the most ambitious and satisfying challenge of my life.

At what point did you decide to pursue a master’s degree?

Well, I started thinking about it at the beginning of 2017, already as Unite’s General Director in Spain. The challenge was to lead the company in Spain, a new market the company wanted to access. My mission was to start providing structure to the company, acquire the first customers and suppliers of our digital platform, build a team and foster the first alliances with associations, institutions and organizations. partners Which can contribute to the growth and position of the company. I already had about 10 years of accumulated work experience between Spain and mainly Germany, but still I felt that I lacked an incentive, a program that would allow me to refresh old knowledge, acquire new knowledge, especially in the areas of finance and human resources and it will give me an opportunity to learn from the best professionals and from the experiences of my colleagues.

Why in ESIC?

I was evaluating several options but what convinced me the most was ESIC for what it meant as a school, for its reputation and for its values. And the experience couldn’t have been better.

What was the meaning of your time at ESIC?,

Given my position, where I need to have an overview of all the major departments of the company, my time at ESIC managed to strengthen this 360 vision and above all, I will highlight the valuable experiences shared by the teaching staff and I am able to apply in my day to day work. Business Lines of advice, a very practical meditative action that came to me and is perfect for my situation. Furthermore, thanks to the Human Resources module, I was able to focus on improving my skills in team management and conflict resolution, and work on concepts such as empathy and talent management. In short, it was a huge personal growth and enriching experience that logically allowed me to grow into a better manager.

In the selection interviews you have had during your professional life, what did you tell about yourself that was not included in the resume?

Something that I feel has helped me throughout my career is my ability to always be alert to drastic changes in circumstances, which allows me to overcome the obstacles that life throws at me and radiate positivity and confidence. confronts them with I’ve always tried to stay focused on where I want to go and set small goals that can help me maintain that focus.

now that you’re on the other What competencies do you look for in someone to add to your team?

Aspects such as integrity, honesty, and transparency, along with the ability to work autonomously, personal responsibility, creativity, flexibility, and the ambition to improve every day are common characteristics of all the positions I hold in my team.

What advice would you give to your “me” from the past?

work hard, train yourself continuously both in academic knowledge and languages, visualize a goal and struggle to achieve it and above all work to be humble and a good human being, in the end makes a difference.
