Vida reappears with a great comeback and sinks Victoria

In a thrilling Ceibeño classic, Vida came back to beat Victoria 2-1 in a game that concluded matchday seven of the 2023 National League of Honduras Apertura tournament.

Both teams fought to get away from the last places as they shared the cold basement of the table, but teacher Héctor Vargas’ move sank the Lecheros and they left happy with three important points.

Despite being on the losing team’s side, Marlon Licona was at the center of the game by saving two penalty kicks, one against Gabriel Tellas and another against Marcelo Canales. However, he could not prevent his team from falling.

Thanks to this victory, Vida leaves the cellar with 7 points and sends Victoria to last place, which remains with 5 units. Those from “Tota” Medina are the new bottom performers of the Apertura 2023.

ACTIONS

The game started quite lively, the Argentine team Héctor Vargas and Hernán Medina were looking for all the balls and 20 minutes ago both had entered another’s fiefdom, but without much danger.

In the 21st minute, Vida missed a penalty from Argentine Gabriel Tellas, but in the end Victoria’s goalkeeper Marlon Licona was alert and parried the South American’s powerful shot and everything was still 0-0.

After 40 minutes, the blue-whites attacked and stopped the red defense poorly, but Frelys López could not give the ball a good direction and the coconut team was saved.

At the start of the second half, young Lauro Chimilio committed a childish foul in the danger zone, which triggered the Jaibos’ first goal and led to him leaving the game as punishment from Vargas for his unnecessary action.

Chimilio failed to reach a disputed ball and went down on Carlos Arzú, which referee Luis Mejía sanctioned without hesitation. The left-handed Alexy Vega came to execute the shot, which did not fail and beat the Argentine Matías Quinteros to make it 1-0 for Victoria.

And the one who had the opportunity to wash his face was the Argentine Tellas, who, after a control error by Marlon Licona, kept the ball in the air and made sure to stick his head, send the ball down and so on decide 1:1 parity.

And Vida went on the attack, putting Victoria’s nether region under pressure.

After a corner kick, another ball bounced in the penalty area, first Hilder Colón swung and couldn’t shoot on goal, but Cléver Portillo did, who shot and turned the score around in the 66th minute. The Reds ended up winning 2-1.

Jorge Castrillo, a young striker who had come on as a substitute, finished from outside the penalty area in the 69th minute, a ball that Marlon Licona calmly controlled. Héctor Vargas then had to modify the scoreboard and took him out of the game to give access to the American defender Jonathan. Bornstein and the rival he controls continue to advance.

Vida had to extend the lead in the 85th minute after the referee awarded another penalty for a foul by Milton Núñez on Tellas.

Marcelo Canales came through, but Licona prevailed again and saved his second maximum penalty of the game.
