There is very little left for Vinicius to return. Today marks 29 days since his injury in Balaídos (broken hamstring in the right leg), a setback that resulted in a six-week absence. But here’s the crux of the matter: there was tremendous confidence that his body would respond well to the treatments, and in the end it would be four to five. That’s exactly what happened. Vinicius is doing well, the pain has disappeared and he has been in the gym for several weeks. Strengthening the area, cardio training in the pool (to avoid impact). This Friday he returned to training and is due to return to Naples. Although he has options to overtake Montilivi.
Everything will depend on the “risk of relapse”. Stick with that term because that’s what Ancelotti asks most every time he speaks to doctors. Something that lies between the eyebrows. What he has been repeating for years, regardless of name or party. This happened, for example, with Benzema in the first leg against PSG: he was touched. Carletto wanted to make it clear that he would play “if the risk of relapse was zero.” That’s what happened. Also with Modric in the cup final last season: Since the risk of a relapse was minimal, he was not used. That’s how decisive the Italian is on this matter. And so it will be with Vinicius.
Therefore his most likely return is points to Naples. The next steps are clear: last Friday he returned to the pitch and next time he will gradually complete training sessions with his teammates to get into the dynamic without rushing. But it should be fully integrated by the middle of the week. So he should be able to complete at least three full training sessions with his teammates: September 29th, October 1st and 2nd (there is a game in Montilivi on the 30th). And with that in mind, playing for Maradona wouldn’t be a risk. And come to Montilivi? It is not impossible, quite the opposite. He had to be outstanding from the start of the week and be able to complete these three sessions before Saturday. If he played he would have minutes, but there is no way he would play the whole game.
The optimism in Valdebebas is total. Güler returned last Friday and completed half of the session with the group. He also brought forward his own deadlines: He was due to return on Monday. Thus, he could make his debut in Montilivi, although it is a development surrounded by enormous mystery, so absolute caution, also focused on Naples, is not excluded. But it moves between that arc. With Vinicius the matter is clearer. He won’t be in the derby, but he’s almost back. Look at Maradona and out of the corner of your eye at Montilivi.
