Volleyball DR beat Canada 3-1 to qualify for U-20 World Cup

Dominican Republic reached the semi-finals 2022 Women’s Under-19 Pan American Cupbeat Canada 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-12, 26-24) in the quarterfinals on Thursday at Tulsa’s Cox Business Convention Center.

The victory also qualified the Dominican Republic (3–1) for the 2023 Under-19 Women’s World Championship.

The Dominican will play against the United States (3-0) in the semi-finals today at 7:00 PM. Canada (1-3) will face Peru (0-3) in the fifth-placed group.

The Dominican Republic beat Puerto Rico 3-0 in the Copa Panama

Scoring errors proved costly for Canada. He gave 36 points to the Dominican Republic, which made 21 errors. It was also difficult for Canada to handle the Dominican service. RD took the aces 11-3. He also had small advantages in spikes (42-42) and blocks (10-8).

The Dominican Republic’s Spyker finished with 18 points each, opposite Caitelle Vargas and Ariana Rodriguez. Vargas scored a match-high 13 kills and five blocks. Rodriguez added 13 goals, four aces and a block.

Canada was led by outside hitter Taylor de Boer, with 13 goals and 14 points on a block.

Canada Coach, Christine Biggs: It’s hard to be so close and not come out with that fourth set. He was certainly proud of the development made by the group in a short span of time. We did a lot of work on the video and practice courts before this game. I think the athletes did a great job executing the game plan and showing that they are growing every day.
