Volleyball Team Badgers Finish 4th in NCAA Tournament

The University of Wisconsin volleyball team’s path to its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Final Four will be through UW Field House.

The Badgers (25-3) finished fourth overall on Sunday when the bracket was announced and will play Colgate (18-9) in the first round at 7:00 pm on Friday. Another first-round match at Field House on Friday will face Texas Tech (17-12) and Florida Gulf Coast (26-5) at 16:30.

The winners will meet on Saturday at 18:30. If the Badgers win both matches, they will play regional games on December 9 and 11.

For the ninth year in a row, the Badgers have gotten tickets to tournaments, and for the third year in a row they have been in the top four.

But Kelly Sheffield emphasized that it will never go out of date and noted the enthusiastic reaction of his team gathered at the Hall of Legacy when the Badger seed was discovered.

“No matter how many years you’ve been doing this, it’s still good to hear your team’s name,” Sheffield said. “Our players have been a part of them for several years now and you have seen their excitement. They are happy to play.

“There is something amazing about a knockout tournament. We are delighted to have this opportunity to represent this university. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to play Field House this weekend. We’ll try to soak up every minute we can and we’re going to play the best volleyball of the year starting this weekend.
