In a previous version of Doctor Strange 2, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch wasn’t going to be the villain
basically a sequel doctor strange 2016’s was intended to be directed by Scott Derrickson, who directed the first film and originally planned to take the sequel in a completely different direction when Sam Raimi took over.
In previous posts we hinted that Derrickson wanted Nightmare to be the villain instead of Wanda Maximoff, who became the main antagonist in the sequel. When Raimi and head writer Michael Waldron took over, Waldron stated in an interview that he had a “anti-multiverse”which inspired him to cast Wanda.
The author also said that there was a version that he saw when Wanda “It’ll Get Bad Eventually”But I personally did not agree with that decision.
Concept art of Derrickson’s movie version was also posted showing what Nightmare would have looked like, as well as a picture of him interacting with Strange in a showdown.
Now thanks to artist Thomas du Crest, we’ve uncovered new concept art that gives us a look back at some of the original Doctor Strange 2 versions of the original and more about Wanda’s original role in the sequel.
In the image, Wanda is not the main villain, and is a sidekick to Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. We can also see Benedict Wong’s Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo following Strange as he investigates one of his lifeless variants. The description for this illustration states that the scene would have taken place in the Incursion Universe and the protagonists would have been in a desert surrounded by dead forms of Doctor Strange.
This image is accompanied by other images that show the world of Strange Zombies, as well as a Doctor Strange zombie-like design, similar to the version seen in the chapter of the animated series What If… Is.
