Children’s Hospital in Ohio received thousands of pediatric doses of Pfizer BioNTech COVID vaccine on Tuesday.
The delivery to the National Children’s Hospital in Columbus comes after an influential advisory group voted on Tuesday that all children between the ages of 5 and 11 receive Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccines for children, pushing the United States to the brink of a massive vaccine expansion.
The FDA has already approved children’s doses – just a third of what is prescribed for adolescents and adults – as safe and effective for the younger age group.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is officially recommending who should receive the FDA-approved vaccines, and their advisers have decided that Pfizer’s vaccines should be open to all 28 million children aged 5-11.
Pfizer-BioNTech’s children’s doses of vaccine were then given the green light from Dr. Rochelle Walenski, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The promotions mean sleepovers, play meetings and family gatherings, delayed for more than a year, will again be on the agenda for many children, along with the possibility of fewer school breaks.
