WATCH NOW: With the determination to rip-off, ‘The Amateurs’ takes on God, the theater – and a pandemic

During the COVID stay-at-home order and the Overture Center’s prolonged closure during 2020-21, Forward Theater Company remained active – offering theater productions via Zoom, green-screen filming and filming on Overture without audiences Doing.

This summer the company presented a live monologue festival at Overture, and in September, after reopening the building to the public with strict vaccination and masking requirements, “Mom, how did you meet the Beatles?” Launched its current season with Drama. “I think every single production has been a step forward in this journey to produce live theater with a live audience,” said Forward artistic director Jane Apoff Gray, who also directed “The Amateur.”

“But there is no doubt that this particular project is particularly meaningful to all of us working on it – because at first, (‘The Amateur’) was our ‘Covid casualty’ drama,” she said. “This team of actors is the team that went through those early days of, ‘What’s happening?,’ ‘What’s going to happen?’ – All that uncertainty.”
