WATCH: Priscilla: Queen of the Desert Musical Announced Leading Roles –

A transgender actor set to play the lead Priscilla: Queen of the Desert When it burst onto the stage at The Star Gold Coast in July, it is considered a world-first for theater production.

Adelaide’s Yvonne Britten, whose stage name is Vonie, is cast as Bernadette Basinger, a role typically adopted by male actors.

“I am absolutely honored and thrilled – to say that I will be playing Bernadette, absolutely I have,” Voney said.

“I was part of Les Girls and Bernadette’s character is a retired Les Girls artist. I’ve toured Australia, I’ve toured on the bus. I’ve worked in Lasseters’ Alice Springs, this casino is where they end up. I have climbed Ayers Rock. I have lived the life of the person I am portraying.”

Producer Matt Ward said that Vanney was cast after an extensive nationwide search.

“We chose Vonie not because she was transgender, but because she was the best cast member for the role. It’s an honor to share Bernadette’s story and it’s important to our team that we make such casting choices.” Which elevates the humanity of his story.”

Transgender cabaret artist Carlota, of Sydney’s Les Girls troupe fame, and Australian pop artist Paulini have also been cast in local production.

“Every song I’m sure everyone in the crowd will know,” Paulini told myGC.

“I’ll be on stage the whole time, doing great performances of all the songs. These are the songs that inspired me to grow up, like ‘shake your Groove Thing‘ And ‘I will Survive, I had seen all those artists in my childhood. So I’m living my dream right now – I can’t wait to get up there and perform.”
