Wayne Taylor Racing w/ Andretti to expand to two cars in 2024

Wayne Taylor Racing w/Andretti Autosport (WTRAndretti) will have two full-time cars in the GTP class starting with the 2024 IMSA season.

For nearly two decades, when it was fully owned by Wayne Taylor, the squad operated one vehicle, although Michael Andretti has now become a partner and received more factory support from Acura/Honda Performance Development (HPD). happens, expansion will be possible.

Additionally, the current pairing of Ricky Taylor and Phillip Albuquerque will continue to drive the No. 10 Acura ARX-06, while drivers for the other car will be announced in the coming months.

“Our plan has always been to go to a two-car program,” said Wayne Taylor. “There are a lot of advantages to having a two-car team and now, going against all the other factory-backed two-car efforts, it is important.”

“HPD and ORECA have built an incredible race car. When you look at the season so far, we’ve been fastest almost everywhere and I think we now have the car to beat. HPD, ORECA, With the combination of Andretti Autosport and all our corporate partners, we have a really strong organisation.”

Acura has been a three-time champion of GTP’s predecessor DPI class since joining the IMSA championship in 2018, claiming the DPI manufacturer, driver and team titles in 2019, 2020 and again in 2022, its last season.

In 2021, the brand begins its partnership with Taylor, previously backed by Cadillac, although they have come closer to clinching the drivers’ championship, as Taylor and Albuquerque were runners-up in the previous two tournaments.

“The expansion of the two-car program reflects not only the progress and success of the WTR Andretti team, but also our relationship with Acura and HPD in the new GTP era,” said Michael Andretti, President and CEO of Andretti Autosport.

“Our focus at Andretti Autosport is on bringing our experience and reach, helping WTRAndretti find the right people and the right resources to continue on our winning path.”

IMSA will continue to expand its grid in 2024 with the arrival of brands such as Lamborghini and the establishment of Porsche client team JDC Motorsports.
