After their victories on the first day of play, the Kölner Haie and the Iserlohn Roosters suffered defeats. The Düsseldorfer EG, on the other hand, celebrated a narrow away win.
On Thursday, the Kölner Haie impressively won the opening game of the new DEL season 6:3 against EHC Munich. Three days later, however, it was a defeat with the 2:5 (0:0, 0:3, 2:2) defeat at the Augsburg Panthers.
Second third clearly goes to Augsburg
In the first third, both teams struggled to find a reasonable rhythm. Augsburg offered a superior number after a penalty for Andreas Thuresson, but that also remained unused.
Completely different in the second part of the game. The Panthers used the first power play phase to make it 1-0 through Wade Bergmann with a slap shot from the blue line (23′). Seven minutes later, Justin Volek made it 2-0 with a slapstick goal (30′). The Augsburger shot Julian Chrobot, from whom the disc flew into the goal. Previously, Mirko Pantkowski had only hit Chrobot with a clarification attempt.
Shortly thereafter, the Haie also got their first power play, but couldn’t capitalize on it. Instead, Augsburg made it 3-0 with their own majority. Sebasian Wännström scored with a slap shot, also because Pantkowski’s view was blocked (39′).
Cologne’s race to catch up is stopped immediately
And it got even worse for the sharks. Just 27 seconds after the start of the final section, Adam Johnson made it 4-0 (41st). Shortly before, Moritz Müller had had a good chance for the Haie. The Haie only scored their goal in a double advantage situation, which Louis-Marc Aubry scored (48th).
A few minutes into the game, the Haie used a game-time penalty for Augsburg’s Michael Clarke to make it 2-4 through David McIntyre (54 th ) outnumbered. In the burgeoning hope, Johnson then made the decision with his second goal and the 5: 2 (55th).
Düsseldorf wins thanks to Harper in Schwenningen
The Düsseldorfer EG, on the other hand, was able to follow up the opening success against Ingolstadt (4:3 aet) with another win. In the afternoon, DEG won the Schwenningen Wild Wings 2-1 (1-0, 0-1, 1-0). Stephen Harper gave the Rhinelanders the lead in the 14th minute. In the second period, Tyson Spink equalized for the Wild Wings (36′). In the 53rd minute it was Harper again who secured Düsseldorf victory with his second goal.
Iserlohn is defeated in Ingolstadt
The Iserlohn Roosters were beaten 2:5 (0:1, 2:3, 0:1) at ERC Ingolstadt after the 2:1 at the start against Augsburg. Justin Feser’s lead for the home side (18′) was equalized by Ryan O’Connor (24′). Casey Bailey even gave the Sauerlanders a 2-1 lead in the 27th minute. However, Enrico Henriquez Morales (32′), Leon Hüttl (39′) and Frederik Storm (40′) turned the game in favor of the Ingolstadt team within the second third. Mirko Höfflin added the 5:2 late (56th).
