Following the announcement by the National Health Supervisory Authority to intervene in EPS Famisanar due to the financial crisis that the company is going through and the increase in complaints and accusations, EPS spoke out.
Famisanar said in a statement that it received the notification this Friday, September 15. “We want to send a message of calm to the more than 3 million members of the EPS Famisanar and all our strategic allies,” said Sandra Milena Jaramillo Ayala, the special agent designated by Supersalud.
The intervention will last for one year in the first measure and at national level. During this time, Jaramillo stated that they will work together to overcome the situation the company finds itself in.
“Our goal is to continually improve the quality of delivery of our services and maintain valuable relationships with our users and allies,” he explained.
Famisanar has 3,049,712 members in 21 departments of the country, the majority concentrated in Bogotá and Cundinamarca (77%), Santander (4.46%), Boyacá (4.34%) and Tolima (2.92%). It also has users in Atlántico, Bolívar, Caldas, Cesar, Huila, Magdalena, Meta, Nariño, Quindío, Risaralda and Valle del Cauca. (Read: The Risks of Taking Ibuprofen or Aspirin for Pain)
Among the reasons that led the regulator to intervene in Famisanar is the increase in petitions, complaints, claims and denunciations. Between January and July this year they received 59,391 requests.
Additionally, Supersalud stated that the EPS provided inconsistent information on financial matters without clarity or transparency.
