The FBI launched a hate crime investigation into the shooting at a hair salon in Dallas last week, after reports that the attack could be linked to two other shootings targeted at Asian-owned businesses in the area.
Authorities are still searching for a suspect after three Korean American women were shot last Wednesday. The shooting took place at Hair World Salon, a predominantly Korean business area, when an unidentified gunman stopped his vehicle near the salon, entered the building and shouted something vague. After this he opened fire and injured the women.
All were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect is described as a black man who was driving a dark or maroon minivan.
A Korean-American woman who was shot during the attack said she was terrified about her ability to work in the future after being shot three times in the arm.
“We’re so nervous. We’re so tired,” said the woman, who did not reveal her identity, according to The Dallas Morning News. “It happened to us for no reason.”
It is written in the newspaper that the woman, after talking, gave the police a plastic bag, which contained bullets filled with bullets found during cleaning the salon after being shot.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said last week that officers believed the attack was related to two other incidents targeting the Asian American community in Dallas. Police pointed to reports that a red minivan seen near a hair salon overtook a strip mall near Hair World Salon on April 2. Bullets were fired, but there were no casualties at that time.
On Tuesday last week, a similar vehicle overtook an Asian-run business in Dallas as well, opening fire at the building. No one was injured in that attack.
“Hate has no place in this city,” Garcia said Monday at a town hall event in Dallas. “I can’t wait to stand before you and announce that we have made an arrest.”
