WhatsApp: How To Activate The ‘MSN Messenger’ Mode That Will Take You Back To Your Days As A Cabin Boy?

Developed by Microsoft, MSN Messenger (also known as Windows Live Messenger) was the world’s most popular instant messaging platform in the early 2000s, when Internet booths in Peru were a very profitable business. The app was so famous that it is not surprising that even the most nostalgic users found a way to bring it back thanks to WhatsApp. Would you like to know how? Here we are going to teach you.

WhatsApp’s ‘MSN Messenger’ mode allows Android phone users to make a number of changes to the instant messaging application. For example, modifying its main icon, having a personalized background with the colors of a Microsoft program, reusing its classic emoji, even listening to the famous ‘Tukutin’ when someone sends you a message.

How do you activate the ‘MSN Messenger’ mode of WhatsApp?

1. Change WhatsApp icon to MSN Messenger icon

Install Nova Launcher app available from Play Store. After giving permission, you will see that it is possible to modify the main screen of your cell phone. Now, press and hold on the WhatsApp icon for a few seconds, until the ‘Edit’ option comes out. This will allow you to change the green logo to the MSN Messenger logo that you should have downloaded in PNG format (with a transparent background) first.

2. Change the Message Ringtone to MSN Messenger’s ‘Tukutin’

Go to YouTube and download the sound that MSN Messenger made when it sent you a message. You can use portals like Savefrom, Freemake etc. to download it. Once you have the file in mp3 format, you will need to enter WhatsApp settings and select ‘Notifications’. Afterward, you have to tap on ‘Notification Tone’ and select the audio that you just saved.

3. Change your chat background

Go to Google Images and download an MSN Messenger wallpaper, but make sure it’s in high resolution and in portrait format. After selecting it, enter any WhatsApp chat and tap the three dots icon. A ‘Wallpaper’ option will appear, select it and then select ‘My Pictures’ to use the wallpaper you downloaded initially.

4. Use the Classic MSN Messenger Emoji

Download the Sticker Studio app on your mobile phone and give it the appropriate permissions. Open Google Chrome (or your favorite browser on your cell phone) and go to the official Wistickers page (you can find it here). Select the ‘Add to WhatsApp’ button and you’ll be able to use the classic MSN Messenger emoji, but in sticker form.
