Recently, the famous instant messaging application WhatsApp announced that it is going to implement a function that allows users of the platform to protect their chats within the application with a password or biometric data.
The new option aims to provide Internet users with another layer of security, as the social network looks for ways to “protect and guarantee the privacy of messages”.
“Thanks to this feature, users can protect certain conversations, allowing them to access locked chats only with an access code or through biometric authentication,” added the instruction of the famous instant messaging application.
Through the Meta channel official, businessman Mark Zuckerberg, for his part, announced the implementation of this new function, which is already available for some devices that have beta testers of the app on both iOS and Android.
How does this new feature work?
‘Chat Lock’ is the name of WhatsApp’s new function and internet users will be able to protect their most important or intimate conversations with a password or biometric data such as fingerprint or Face ID authentication.
To be able to activate this option in your conversations, the first thing you have to do is go to the chat with the person or group you want to protect, then scroll down and click the “Block” option when it appears.
Once you do this, the password protected chat will move to a section that says “Blocked chats” where you can see all the conversations you have blocked.
To enter the conversation, all you have to do is click on it and enter the password or biometric data with which you block the chat of that person or group.
In addition, the WhatsApp address explained that even if the chat is blocked, the user should note that “for greater privacy, media shared in blocked chats are not automatically saved to the phone’s gallery.”
“When a chat is locked, you can be sure that sensitive information and personal data in that conversation remain secure, even if someone else has access to your phone. This level of control improves the overall security of your conversations and protects your privacy,” the social network’s executives added.
