Stellantis in Mexico
The company is one of the oldest companies in the Mexican market. Stellantis’ operations in the country originated in 1938, when a factory began operations in Polanco, Mexico City, producing up to 120 units per month and employing 145 people.
The company currently operates seven plants in Mexican territory, a network of 272 dealers and a corporate headquarters. The company now employs more than 15,000 people.
At the end of the first half of the year, Stellantis had a market share of 7.5%, making it the fourth largest seller in the country along with Toyota, followed by the largest new car seller in the country after Nissan, General Motors and Grupo Volkswagen.
The group brings together both vehicle brands and automotive component brands.

Ram Trucks, owned by Stellantis, was launched in 2009, but its origins date back to 1981, the year its name was used on truck models under the Dodge Brothers Company brand, operated by the Chrysler Group. According to their website.
In Mexico, four pickup models are offered in the luxury segment, six pickup trucks in the sports segment and six commercial vehicles. According to Inegi, in the first half of the year the company sold the domestically produced RAM 4000, of which 1,476 units were sold in the first half of the year, as well as the RAM 700 imported from Brazil, of which 7,321 units were sold.
jeep
The more than 80-year-old brand’s first model was the Go-Anywhere, Do-Anything 4×4 Battle Din, which, according to its website, became a “hero” to thousands of Allied soldiers around the world in the midst of war, according to the story published on the website the 1940s.
The American company sells everything from city to off-road vehicles. Chrysler sold 1,223 units of the nationwide Jeep Compass SUV in Mexico. According to Inegi, this is the only model the company sold in the country.
FIAT
It was 1899 and there was no automobile industry in Italy yet, so the Fabbrica Italiana Automobil Di Torentino (FIAT) was created by Gionanni Agnelli and Emanuele Cacherano, which opened its first factory in Turin a year later, according to their website.
Mobi, Argo, Ducato, Pulse and Fastback are the models offered in Mexico. In the first half of the year, 2,763 units of the Brazilian-made Pulse SUV were sold in the local market, making it the best-selling model in the country. The list is followed by the Brazilian-made Mobi subcompact car, with 1,352 units and 842 units of the Argo subcompact car from Brazil, 400 units of the Brazilian Fastback SUV and 299 units of the Ducato pickup truck imported from Italy.
Peugeot
The origins of Peugeot date back to 1810, when Jean-Frédéric and Jean-Pierre II Peugeot founded this family business. However, according to its website, it wasn’t until 1889 that the company introduced its first vehicle, a steam tricycle.
The French company’s best-selling model in Mexico is the Partner pickup truck assembled in Spain with 2,344 units in the first half of the year, followed by the SUV 3008 assembled in France with 1,179 units, followed by the SUV 3008 also assembled in France with 1,179 units and the Rifter assembled in Spain. Pickup with 1,096 units. The portfolio in the country also includes freight and delivery vehicles.
Evade
Brothers John and Horace Dodge began their careers designing and manufacturing vehicles in the bicycle segment, but it only took a few years before they found their true calling in four-wheeled vehicles, according to the American portal Amencars.
Although the brothers founded their business in Hamtrack, USA, in 1910, they continued to work for Ford, but it was not until 1914 that they set out on their own and the Dodge Brother Company was founded.
Attitude, Journey, Durango, Challenger and Charger are the models sold by the brand in Mexico, but no sales data for the company appears in Inegi.
Chrysler
Walther Chrysler, the company’s founder, began working at Buick Motor but left that job in 1920 to run Maxwell-Chalmers, an automobile manufacturer that was in financial trouble, according to its website.
Chrysler restructured the company and took the opportunity to form the Chrysler Corporation in June 1925. The first model marketed under this name was the Maxwell, also known as the B-70. The company offers the Pacifica minivan in Mexico.
Citroen
It is a volume brand in Europe that wants to conquer a segment of hybrid vehicles with its latest model, the Citröen C4, which, according to the Stellantis site, it has also launched on the market with a version with combustion engine and gasoline. The brand’s country of birth is France.
Abarth
According to the Stellantis website, on March 31, 1949, Austrian but naturalized Italian automobile designer Carlo Abarth founded the brand that would bear his last name to this day, laying the foundation for racing cars. The company with the scorpion logo operates its sales exclusively in Europe. It is not sold in Mexico.
Opel and Vauxhall
Opel was founded in 1862 by Adam Opel in Rüsselsheim, Germany, but production of automobiles did not begin until 1899. Opel was part of the PSA Group.
Vuaxhall is Opel’s twin brand, focused on the United Kingdom. Together they are present in more than 60 countries and plan that by 2024 all models they offer will have an electric version, according to the Stellantis website. The companies do not market in Mexico.
