The package approved by the Democratic government also provides for the extension of the maximum validity period of the initial and renewal work authorization documents (EAD) for a maximum of five years for asylum seekers, asylum seekers, refugees and persons with applications for adjustment status or cancellation of removal.

Which immigrants will soon receive their work permits?
The Joe Biden administration announced that it will expedite the process of issuing work permits to undocumented immigrants who have been paroled and who also made the designation through the CBP One application. The process will take 30 days instead of the previously planned 90 days, according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The measure comes into force from October 1st.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will deploy additional staff and implement improvements to reduce the average processing time for these applications from 90 days to 30 days for U.S. citizen parolees. Cubans, Haitians, Venezuelans or Nicaraguans.
“The goal is to ensure that individuals receive timely authorization to work and can support themselves and their families while they continue their processes in the United States,” DHS adds.
