Forget about clinics and hospitals! Moderna and Pfizer vaccines against COVID-19 will now be sold in pharmacies in Mexico after being approved by the Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris).

Now the question is where and how to sell the drugs because the health authority has warned that they must be given under medical supervision.

Rafael Gual, general director of the National Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry (Canifarma), explained that vaccines will only be sold at health points with special licenses.

This is for drugs in fraction I, II and III, as well as those that have the necessary infrastructure such as a certain temperature or freezers because other drugs must be in cold environments.

Antonio Pascual, president of the National Association of Pharmacies of Mexico, explained that not all pharmacies can participate in the sale of doses.

“There must be a special cold network, because biologicals are not only about putting them in the refrigerator, only 35 percent of pharmacies in the country have the possibility of selling vaccines,” he explained.

The Modern Vaccine will arrive in Mexico in December

Alejandra Espinosa de los Monteros, director of the Vaccine Business Unit of Asofarma in Mexico, announced that in the second half of December the first shipment of Moderna’s vaccine against COVID-19 will arrive in the country.
