Good luck when you return home on Friday September 15th and when you go to work on Saturday the 16th! as some of the main streets in Mexico City’s historic center are closed due to Independence Day celebrations.
On the occasion of the cry for independence that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will give in the Zócalo of Mexico City, as well as the Grupo Frontera concert that is expected to follow the event, the closures will begin from Friday morning, September 15. They will last until last until dawn.
On the morning and afternoon of Saturday, September 16, certain streets will remain closed as part of the military parade organized by the Army and Navy. This will extend along major streets mainly throughout the Cuauhtémoc Mayor’s Office.
Roads are closed for Independence Day in CDMX
According to the Secretariat for Citizen Security (SSC), road closures in the historic center are expected to take place throughout the day on September 15th, while on the 16th they would only take place in the morning.
On September 15, the roads were closed
According to the Mexico City Historic Center Authority, on this day streets will be closed according to three safety belts:
- First belt, starting at 6:00: Venustiano Carranza, Correo Mayor, Donceles and Palma.
- Second belt, starting at 12:00: Republic of Uruguay, Jesús MarÃa, Belisario DomÃnguez and Simón Bolivar.
- Third belt, starting at 2:00 p.m.: Izazaga, Circunvalación, Eje 1 Norte and Eje Central.
This includes closing streets such as the Plaza de la Constitución racetrack and streets near Mexico City’s Zócalo with fences from the night of September 14th.
On September 16th the roads were closed
On this day, a section of road of almost 10 kilometers will be closed, along which the military will offer its route. The following streets are affected:
- 20th November.
- Constitution Square.
- 5th of May.
- Juarez.
- Paseo de la Reforma.
The parade ends at Campo Marte.
