Which state will distribute a $1,000 stimulus check?

Which state is distributing $1,000 stimulus checks? In response to the economic challenges posed by inflation, The state of New Mexico approved a $1,000 stimulus check for eligible residents. Governor Michelle Luján Grisham announced this initiative to ease the financial burden on families affected by rising prices. Let’s dive into the details of this stimulus package.

“Prices for basic necessities remain high across the country. “Our state is in a fantastic financial position today and it is important to me that New Mexico families share in this success.” the governor said in an official statement.

First of all, it should be borne in mind that the benefit is available only to those who have filed an income tax return for 2021 and are not claimed as dependent on the tax return of another taxpayer. Couples who apply jointly, heads of household or spouses receive the full amount. Single and married individuals who file taxes separately will only receive $500.

For those who have complied with this tax obligation, the refund deadlines have already expired. The checks were mailed at the end of June this year. While those who had the direct deposit option enabled did not claim it until the week of June 19th. However, there is still a chance to achieve this. Eligible taxpayers have until May 31, 2024 to file their 2021 income tax return if they have not already done so.

How to get your stimulus check in New Mexico

Special considerations apply to individuals whose circumstances have changed since they filed their tax return:

  • Change of address: If you’ve moved out of state, you can still collect your stimulus check. Update your address in the “Taxpayer Access Point (TAP) account or file Form RPD-41260 with the Department of Revenue and Taxation as soon as possible.”
  • Bank account changes: If your bank account information has changed since you filed your 2021 tax return, you will receive a paper check in the mail.
  • divorce: In case of divorce after filing the application, the refund will be sent to the main applicant listed in the document, regardless of marital status.
  • ITIN authorization– Eligibility is not limited to individuals with Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs). Every taxpayer who has submitted their personal income tax return is entitled to payments.
