White floating contaminants found in Pfizer vaccine in several Japanese cities: Officials

Foreign substances have been discovered in five unused vials of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine near Tokyo, Japan, and one in Osaka prefecture, officials said on Tuesday.

According to the Kyodo news agency, the cities of Sagamihara, Kamakura, and Sakai said the vials containing the white floating substance belonged to the same Pfizer vaccine lot. He requested that Pfizer should review the ingredients in the vials.

Officials told Kyodo this week that contaminants were found at several sites in Sagamihara, a site in Kamakura and a site in Sakai. Officials had identified the Pfizer lot number as FF5357.

He said Pfizer supplements containing the foreign substance were not used.

Pfizer officials from Japan said at a news conference on Wednesday that the case is likely material that hasn’t been completely disbanded, Mainichi Daily News reported. The firm said it did not affect the quality or safety of the vaccine. The Epoch Times has contacted the company for comment.

Several weeks ago, the Japanese health ministry suspended 1.63 million doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine because of contamination. Weeks later, government officials confirmed in early September that three people had died after receiving a shot from batches that had been suspended since Moderna’s vaccine, which uses the same mRNA technology as Pfizer.

A later investigation revealed that particles of stainless steel had contaminated Moderna’s supplements. Both firms traced it back to a production site in Spain.
