Why Twitter thinks Wordle is the first big trend of 2022

Wordle has been trending all over Twitter, with the green, yellow and brown square emoji being part of several tweets over the past few weeks. And the social media platform has confirmed that the game is the first major viral trend of 2022. The word guessing game has sparked buzz about stories as well as people sharing their achievements on social media, tutorials and strategies. its origin,

Twitter has revealed that since its October 2021 release, ‘Verdal’ has been mentioned a total of 840,000 times across the platform. November saw a spike in the use of the yellow and green box emoji, with 773,000 tweets used to refer to blocks within the game.

The numbers also show that Indian Twitter has found Wordle as its new obsession in 2022. In India, 96 percent of wordlay conversations on Twitter took place in January 2022. Among Indians, passion has steadily increased with a daily average of 48 per cent. Wordle discussions increase within the country.

Wordle originally began as a love story, when a Brooklyn-based software engineer named Josh Wardle created a word guessing game for himself and his partner. After months of playing it, the game was made available to the public in November, after which it saw a huge jump in users, accumulating over 300,000 players.

The online puzzle game is completely free to play and requires players to strategically guess a five-letter word. The game updates itself with a new word every day.

Each word is only for 24 hours. All over the world each player receives the same word, which adds a social element. You can read about some tips on how to improve the game here.

Users get 6 attempts to correct the word, at which point they win the puzzle and can share their achievement online. The yellow tile indicates that the guessed letter is correct, but the location is incorrect. The green tile indicates a correct guess. A grayed-out tile means that the letter is not part of the word.

When users share their results with others, Wordlay simply shows the number of guesses that took the time, and that path, which includes the green, yellow, and gray tiles. As Twitter has highlighted, sharing your ‘wordl’ result of the day has become a favorite activity for many Indians, the morning equivalent of a Sudoku or quiz, one might say.
