Wildfires in Chile: Canada to send reinforcements

Canada will send equipment and experts to Chile to help fight devastating wildfires that have raged in the country since early February.

In a statement published on Sunday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada would send “assistance such as experts and equipment to fight vegetation fires” to Chile.

He reminded that when wildfires raged in Canada last year, Chile offered “valuable assistance” and now it was time to return that favor.

“The (Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center (CIFFC)) will deploy a reconnaissance and assessment team to Chile. The team will be made up of forest fire experts from CIFFC and provincial and territorial forest fire organisations,” said Civil Defense Minister, Harjit S. Sajjan's office provided detailed information by email.
