Will Google Pixel Watch Come With Its Own Companion App?

The yet-to-be-launched Google Pixel Watch will have its own companion app, called the “Google Pixel Watch app,” similar to what we’ve seen Samsung and Apple see with the Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch, according to a new Google Play Services setting. The page for “Smart Unlocked” as seen by 9to5Google in the APK teardown for beta version 22.22. The newly teased page directly references the Google Pixel Watch, and also mentions the “Google Pixel Watch app”.

Earlier in January this year, the company had announced that devices running Wear OS 3 would soon be able to unlock Android smartphones and tablets and even Chromebooks. Mentioning that it will work with “worthy Wear OS 3 devices”, Google raised the possibility that this new unlocking feature will debut on the (then unannounced) Pixel Watch, as added in a 9to5Google report.

The latest leak also means that the first Google Pixel Watch will not use the Wear OS companion app, and will instead use its own dedicated app.

However, it should be noted that this information should be taken with a pinch of salt as with most APK teardowns there is no certainty that this feature will see the light of day. And, this suggests that we can only expect this feature.

Meanwhile, after nearly five years of leaks and rumours, Google announced the Pixel Watch at the Google I/O conference last month. Google has finally announced its Pixel Watch, which is expected to come alongside the Pixel 7 smartphone later this fall. The company also showcased its first Android tablet. The Pixel Watch will come with a circular, domed design with a tactile crown and a side button.
