NEW YORK (WNN) — Oprah Winfrey’s new book club pick is Richard Powers’ “Bevilderment,” her first novel since Pulitzer Prize-winning “The Overstory” and already on the fiction longlist for the National Book Awards.

“My next pick comes from one of the greatest living writers in our country, Richard Powers, who writes some of the most beautiful sentences I’ve read,” Winfrey said in a statement Tuesday.

Powers, 64, whose other books include “Orfeo” and “The Echo Maker,” winner of the National Book Award in 2006, said in a statement that she was “honored and named ‘Oprah Book Club’. ‘Selection.

“‘Beveled’ doesn’t begin to describe it,” he said. “It’s one of the most rewarding honors in my 40-year career.”

Winfrey’s interview with Powers will air on Apple TV Plus on October 22. Powers is known for having complex narratives that often focus on science, technology and the environment. “Afraid”, published last week, tells of a widowed astrologer and her struggle to raise her 9-year-old son.

Tuesday’s announcement comes just a month after Winfrey’s previous book club picks: “The Love Songs of Webb du Bois,” the debut novel by Honoree Fanon Jeffers.
