The Italian Alberto Dainese was the winner of the seventeenth stage of the Giro d’Italia between Pergine Valsugana and Caorle 197 km, the day of the transition that kept Geraint Thomas (Ineos) in the pink jersey as the leader.
Dainese won by a narrow margin, who sought a “photo finish” from the patriot Jonathan of Milan (Bahrain) and the Australian Michael Matthew (Jayco), with a time of 4h.26.08, at an average of 44.3 km/h.
Thomas Geraint continues to command the top positions with an 18 second lead over Portuguese Joao Almeida (UAE Emirates) and 29 over Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma).
There was no lack of a stimulating event, nor a spectacle of the sport of speed, in which Alberto Dainese (Abano Terme, 25 years old) stood millimeter, who put the wheel at the finish line before Milan and Matthew; to give the peloton time in 4h.26.08, at an average of 44.5 km/hour.
The entire peloton arrived compactly, turning the transition page without incident, waiting for the decisive mountain and time trial on Saturday. At the end of the campaign they were called, and they will not have options until Sunday in Rome.
It was a pleasant day of rest until the Adriatic town of Caporle, a small town with 11,000 inhabitants, was overwhelmed by the arrival of Giron. The leader did not move.
Geraint Thomas retained the pink jersey with an 18 second advantage over the Portuguese Ioannis Almeida (UAE) and 29 over Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma).
This Thursday the eighteenth station between Oderzo and Val di Zoldo (Palafavera) will be 161 km long.
