Not long now, then winter will be here. Drivers also have to be prepared for this. But once again there is a shortage.

October starts in two weeks. Then it’s about time for the winter tires. But there are also some difficulties this year. Anyone who needs new tires has to dig deep into their pockets. Because winter tires are scarce and correspondingly expensive.

There is still some savings potential.

It will be expensive for drivers

This is actually no surprise. After all, prices have gone up everywhere. Grocery, fuel and gas have all seen huge price increases. New cars are also significantly more expensive.

Many consumers are currently forgoing the purchase they had actually planned. A car, for example. Because this is not available anyway.

But some purchases are necessary. The same goes for winter tires. Anyone who needs new ones will have to buy them in the next few weeks. Because there is an obligation to use them in snow and ice.

Winter tires are also essential for safety. But winter tires are also experiencing an enormous price increase.

This is how drivers can save

Drivers will have to dig much deeper into their pockets for winter tires this year. They are more expensive than ever. Because costs have risen worldwide. Namely for raw materials, energy and transport. This is also reflected in the prices for winter tires.

“Until a few months ago, the tire industry still largely obtained important raw materials such as carbon black and synthetic rubber from Russia and the Ukraine.” This explains the Federal Association of tire dealers and vulcanisers (BRV).

The price of the 100 best-selling winter tire types increased in August 2022. And on average by 20.8 percent. This was the result of an analysis of a comparison portal.

All-season tires have also become more expensive. Many Germans now use them. The price increase for all-weather tires is 15.5 percent. So only slightly less.

Price comparison is worthwhile

Motorists have to pay significantly more for their winter tires this year. This is inevitable. But tire prices vary widely. The same tire brands cost different amounts depending on the dealer. This was determined by the comparison portal.

Motorists should therefore look around on the open market and compare prices. This way you can save a few euros.
