Neighbors who oppose the removal of trees on July 14 assure that the municipality has reached an agreement and there will be modifications to the project to meet their demand.
As they maintain, the felling of the specimens would be without effect and, with a few exceptions, they would remain standing and it would be possible for the widening and modernization work to continue.
After a meeting with Secretary of Infrastructure Alejandro Meneses, members of the Sociedad de Fomento of the Patagonia neighborhood reported that:
– The existing trees at the intersection of 14 de Julio and Calquín will not be touched. For this, the route of bike path and pedestrian path was changed.
– Only one of the marked trees will be removed, the one that remains at the intersection of Molina Campos. The rest will not be touched, despite the fact that there are two at that junction and two more at the Horacio Quiroga junction that prevent adequate visibility.
– Among the samples of the paths of 14 de Julio, between Molina Campos and Spilimbergo, there are eight of them that are poorly planted, invading the road. They will be bypassed, the road in that sector will be reduced to 4.50 meters instead of 5.50 metres.
– Three trees that were in poor condition (Acacias bola) were removed, and will be replaced in a timely manner.
– The layout of the cycle path and pedestrian path will be amended to retain existing trees. Lighting will be installed in the sector, although the light pole will be slightly further from the cycle path, to make it pedestrian friendly.
Graciela Benedetti, one of the group’s references, told Wips that “the work is progressing and at the moment they haven’t touched the trees. The only one that interferes, but the rest will remain. We hope they will keep their word because they No official statement has been released.
We reached out to Martin Castro, Under Secretary for Planning, but he said he had no information. While Infrastructure Secretary Alejandro Meneses never responded.
In turn, the other sectors consulted also replied that they had no data on this meeting or the alleged changes.
