Reliance Jio may be trying to attract people through cheap plans and unlimited calling, but Airtel is constantly adding new customers due to its strong network. In December 2020, Airtel defeated Jio for the fifth time in a row to add new mobile customers. This was revealed in the latest figures from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TROI).
Airtel found and lost Vi customers
According to TRAI, Sunil Bharti Mittal’s Bharti Airtel added 40.5 lakh new wireless subscribers in December. At the same time, Reliance Jio has only 4.7 lakh new customers. As always, in December, 57 lakh customers left Vodafone-Idea. As such, there are clear indications that more and more customers coming out of Vi are choosing Airtel as their new company.
Who has how many customers
According to Troy data, the number of Bharti Airtel customers increased to 33.87 crore in December. Thus, Airtel had a market share of 29.36% in December. At the same time, Reliance Jio’s subscriber base grew to 40.87 crore in December and its market share in December stood at 35.43 per cent. Vodafone-Idea user base fell to 28.42 crore.
Plans may soon be expensive
According to a recent report, telecom companies may raise their tariff prices in the next 1-2 quarters (i.e. until June-July). Vodafone-Idea plans can start as expensive. According to investment information and credit rating agency ICRA, in the fiscal year 2021-22, from April 1, companies may again raise tariff plans to boost their earnings.
