Without Mo Ibrahim, the Gophers leaned on Tre Potts during Ohio’s win over Miami

Mo Ibrahim turned around very well on Saturday, considering what he has done in the last 10 days.

The Gophers star — who is running back for the season after surgery on a lower left leg injury in a loss to Ohio State — wore a bright green cast full of signatures. In a 31–26 win over Miami, Ohio, at Huntington Banks Stadium, he was moving into midfield as the U’s coin-toss captain, assisting Scooter and encouraging teammates, especially tailbacks.

The Minnesota running game, meanwhile, relied heavily on Trey Potts, who had 34 carries for 178 yards and two touchdowns at Huntington Banks Stadium. Cam Willey had three carries for 0 yards of sand Bryce Williams had two for minus -2.

The freshman, driving back Mar’Keiz Irving’s 43-yard kickoff return, set up a crucial drive for Minnesota in the second half. Yu gave the ball to Potts five straight times and his last run was a 21-yard touchdown burst, giving Yu a 28–20 lead.

Going into this year, Potts had 26 carries for 171 yards in seven career appearances in 2019-20. Potts made 10 carries for 34 yards against Bucky last week.

no autman-bell

Minnesota’s top receiver Chris Autman-Bell missed the second straight game on Saturday. “CrAB” warmed up to play against the RedHawks, but not before the game turned from the pad and watched the game from the sidelines.

New kicker Matthew Trickett easily scored a 50-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to extend Minnesota’s lead to 31-20. It was Yu’s first field goal from 50 yards or more since Emmet Carpenter against Fresno State on September 8, 2018.
