Woman arrested after being armed at Empire State Building, NYPD reports

The Empire State Building’s rules state that firearms are forbidden in the building.

A woman is caught with a loaded gun after going off a metal detector at the Big Apple tourist hotspot at the Empire State Building on Sunday.NYPD reported.

Authorities said the 37-year-old woman, whose identity has not been released, had a valid gun license issued in Pennsylvania, but was not authorized to carry that weapon in New York.

“Our laws are pretty strict here in New York City”A spokesperson for the NYPD told the New York Post.

The weapon, which police say was a Ruger pistol, triggered a metal detector leading to his arrest, which occurred just after 11:00 a.m. without incident.

Empire State Building rules state that firearms are forbidden in the buildingExcept for members of federal, state and New York City law enforcement agencies.

The case of a woman unexpectedly entering with a gun is not the first to happen at the iconic building.

Two armed visitors were detained at the building in separate incidents in August 2020. They were a woman from Wyoming and a man from Louisiana.

In July 2013, a 39-year-old Georgia man was arrested after asking a security guard if he could hide his loaded .40-caliber Sig Sauer pistol while visiting the location.

In 2012 a former Marine was arrested after trying to register his gun with security personnel., Subject had a valid pistol permit in Indiana, but not in NYC.
