A young woman crossing a road Thursday morning at the intersection of Bay and Blanchard in Victoria was struck and blown away by a vehicle running through a red light.
Dashcam footage provided by a witness shows a silver or gray Mini Countryman striking a woman as she crosses a street with a green light in a crosswalk after 9 a.m., then accelerates . Driving north along Blanchard Street, the driver missed a white Tesla.
Victoria Police released the video and asked people for help in locating the driver of the Mini.
Many people present on the spot came forward to help the girl. Police said she suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.
Kimberlynn Slattery, the woman who was hit by the car, posted on social media Thursday afternoon that she was recovering at home.
“Luckily there were no major injuries and I hope it just hurts for a while,” she wrote. “Thanks to the first responders and the people who stopped to help me! Please everyone out there be careful, and please wipe all the snow off your cars and slow down.”
Snow is visible on most of the side windows of the Mini in the video.
Police are asking to contact the driver of the Mini or anyone with knowledge of the driver. They’re also asking the driver of the white Tesla Model Y to turn to a left-hand side on Blanchard Street to hopefully have additional video of the vehicle involved.
