Woman injured in scuffle outside London concert dies

LONDON ( Associated Press) – A woman injured in an accidental brawl outside a London music venue has died. The police gave this information on Saturday.

Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, from London, was one of eight people who were admitted to hospital after being caught in a scuffle outside the O2 Brixton Academy on Thursday night, where Nigerian singer Esek was to perform.

According to the Metropolitan Police, Ikumelo died on Saturday morning. The condition of two other women, aged 21 and 23, remains critical.

Esek declared himself “overwhelmed with grief” at Ikumelo’s death. “My heartfelt condolences to your loved ones at this time. Please keep his family in our prayers. I have spoken to him and will continue to do so,” he wrote on Instagram.

Police reported that “a large crowd tried to enter without tickets” and that emergency services responded after people were crushed to death.

He urged people with photos or videos to send them to the police to help them in the investigation.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he was “heartbroken” by Ikumelo’s death. He said: “Rebecca had a whole life ahead of her and on behalf of all Londoners I want to extend my condolences to her family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time.”

“My thoughts are with all those affected by this horrific incident. It is vital that the investigation into what happened is completed as soon as possible.”

Brixton Academy, in South London, is one of the city’s most famous music venues. Built in the 1920s as a cinema, it seats just 5,000 spectators.
