NEW YORK — Detectives are looking for a woman accused of throwing a substance in the face of another woman exiting a Brooklyn subway station overnight, causing severe burns on the left side of her face.
Police said the cryptic substance was allegedly thrown at the victim’s face before the assailant, dressed entirely in black, fled the station at around 1 am on Friday.
Authorities said the apparently unprovoked attack happened at the Winthrop Street station around the corner from Kings County Hospital, which serves the 2 and 5 lines.
A senior police officer said the woman was on her way to work as a home health aide when she first noticed the assailant was behaving strangely after the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station. The unidentified female was on the train screaming and cursing before following the victim into the Winthrop stop.
The senior officer said the victim started recording the video on her cellphone as she walked down the stairs to leave the station, while the other woman was right behind her. Authorities circulated some of the images hours later in hopes of helping identify him.
According to police, the woman was admitted to a nearby hospital before being transferred to the burn unit at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx. His condition was not immediately known.
